Interview with Rena Sance

How did you start with astrology?

From a very early age, I loved reading and my mother had a set of twelve brochures about each of the Zodiac signs. Those books were wonderfully written introducing me to the subject with references to history, mythology, symbolism. I had read them again and again all over throughout my whole childhood. There had not been many books in those times, especially in other languages, on astrology. These were my true treasure.

Were you always convinced about how astrology works?

Oh, not at all! Quite contrary. The first question I've asked every new person I had met was what is your Sun sign. And often I could not see a damn resemblance in this person behaviour and the Sun sign. I was confused for many years, but only a child or youngster who was keen to know.  As children, we tend to see the world in black and white, without the subtle differences in between. So I had gone on further - read a lot of books, talked to a lot of people, made notes, read more books, and first and foremost - gazing, sometimes for hours - into the astro-mandala - the astro-chart, and into the real night-sky, trying to grasp the whole meaning behind.

Eventually, I started making personal astro-charts, interpretations, and so on. I've seen momentarily how an astro-chart reveals somebodies personality with all hidden tendencies. Fascinating!

Often, a meditative state lasted for hours with one question in mind - for example - how the Sun in Aries and Moon in Virgo relate to each other in general? You see - I don't rely on what others write, you've got to check it for yourself.

I studied mythology, religion, symbology and other related subjects - to feel, to see what exactly Moon qualities are, and how they manifest throughout our mood and life. I also dived into psychology books and all related topics.

Of course, for years I've been studying my own chart - and this is what makes astrology so fun and profound at the same time. It is serious business - the discovery keeps going on forever. There is always something more to surprise you.

So when you see somebody else astro-chart how long do you spend on 'studying' it?

First, a quick glimpse and I make notes. Then a few hours meditation and concentration - literally, to take it into further level. I want to see and feel the chart from all possible angles. So I concentrate on the most prominent planets and aspects, first.

Move on to the next and try to catch what the layout is telling and what are the best words to describe it. The words are the most difficult and confusing part of the interpretation. We all differ and have different cultural and thus language references. That's one point. Another is to put this subtle energy you're feeling - into words. Sometimes it is really hard to put it together and compose a written language. This is an art in itself. There are streams of feelings and images in your mind, many at the same time, and if you want to write it all down it could take ages!

So, to keep it simple, to keep it in a compact manner, this is the most challenging art in astrology. It is easier to talk about the astro-influences sometimes then to write it down. There are many modes of tone in one's voice and they give this quality which we get at the subconscious level - we do not quite realise it but we can read it or feel it quite clear. But, on the other hand, writing makes you more cautious with the verbalisation, the words that you are choosing fell more right then others, and you can perfect the interpretation texts to some satisfactory degree. Yet - it never is and will be a full picture.

Can astrology predict if someone will be wealthy, famous? We see in movies an old man looking at the stars and knowing that some event is coming. Does it work?

There are many legends where a special event, like king-to-be born, are in those movies or legends. It tells us that there is something in astrology, in the intuitive ability to read 'the signs'. There are some aspects of personal astro-chart which allow seeing that a person is more likely to achieve success, and in what fields - more or less.

There are no definite answers in astrology, however. This is probably the most confusing thing on the side of outsiders and a client. They expect the exact answer to the question - will I be wealthy or famous? Yes, you may have such traits in your astro-chart and astro-analysis may help you to focus on it more, explain the downfalls, advice on the best route to your success.

What do you tell them?

We see the world and react to it differently, according to the heavenly blueprint of our birthday. To answer the question about a love affair or having money - in terms of definitive success - it is a subject to interpretation. For example, many people with a lot of trines which are considered to be lucky - the good thing is happening to the people - and they are not happy! And the are many charts filled with heavy aspects, and the people were very successful, enjoying their lives.

So it is, at the end of the day - what we make out of our planetary influences because the interpretation of one particular aspect if quite vast. We have a lot of choices. To know that such energy is present in one's life is a good thing, I think. It is a lot better to name some of our strengths and weaknesses so we become more aware of ourselves.

What astrology has given you, can you share?

Oh, a lot. A lot of relief, a lot of understanding, freedom of choice and empowerment. You see, we live in a society where some forms of behaviour are required, on the surface. You need to look good, to be kind and funny, smart, quick-witted, and all those. And we all agree on that, but there are differences obviously. I am Sagittarian Sun, so every book on astrology tells me that I have all those positive characteristic. Sagittarians are lovely people and fun to be around, great companions, never bored, extrovert, adventurous spirits.

I could see these traits in my behaviour but only to some degree. There was a lot missing from my personality in those descriptions, of course. And I mean - a lot. I could behave quite contrary and we all have different sub-personalities, as to use this description. Certainly no one is a pure Sun sign energy.

Studying astrology, I realized, of other planets and their position and their influence, and - bang on! Capricorn Moon and all personal planets in Scorpio - showing a lot of introspection and introvertive tendencies.

At last, I could understand why I was often nervous around people. I've instinctively felt that it takes too much of my private space, which I so desperately needed  - as almost every person affected by similar astro-arrangement. I have rearranged my life, so to have a suitable time and space for myself and still enjoying meeting people without any guilt or discomfort. It does help to understand these completely different qualities in one's personality and acknowledge them.

On the other hand, astrology allowed me to understand how different we are, how differently we perceive and receive the world and its phenomena. Astrology makes us more aware of everybody's uniqueness and respects this uniqueness.

It is a fascinating subject even if - or because of - it cannot be grasped by modern scientific evidence. To make something valid, the scientist needs to perform a lot of data, test and gathering into sufficient prove which can be tested again, and - at least a few more times. This costs a lot of money and time.

There were only a few such experiments with promising effects. We need to understand that science has a very rigorous, materialistic approach. This does not apply to astrology and other 'metaphysics' of life.

Scientists tried to grasp the phenomena of telepathy, spiritual healing, out of body experiences, near-death experiences, UFO. Nothing scientific there, but very many people know those things exist or are at least intrigued by them - and they - we all who study those subjects - are not residents in mental asylums. End of story.

Anyway, many beginners in astrology are always stunned by the 'exactness' while doing astro-charts analysis for family and friends. The striking differences in characters based on astro-interpretation and its relevance to a real person is simply mind-blowing.

Last word?

I would say astrology is on the rise in terms of exploration. There is something in it, definitely.
