This is a free introduction to Tarot and its meaning.
Tarot deck was developed most probably during the Italian Renaissance, a fascinating, life-changing epoch. It has been used as more of a game than a divination tool, although we cannot be sure. With the rise of spiritualism and esoterica in the 19th century, Tarot has become exercised for predicting events and self-development.
According to American psychologist and counsellor, Art Rosengarten, practising Tarot has not only the ability to understand our lives more deeply, to see it from a different perspective but also to increase intuition. His doctoral dissertation was on the Tarot.
Now, in his psychology practice, he does reading for his clients, acknowledging the cards can be helpful to solve problems. Tarot allows people to interact with pictures of archetypal nature, representing different levels of human perception, of the life and social forces.
Does Tarot Read the Future?
Many times I have witnessed that Tarot can read the near future, clearly showing what is coming within a few days, or even a few months - although no one was expecting the event to occur.
On a basic level, the cards read the present situation on a deeper level, allowing us to understand complexities or hidden forces behind.
Can Tarot read the Unknown? Check it out yourself - do a Tarot spread for someone you have not been in touch with for a while, or do a 'blind' reading - let someone pick a subject, without telling you anything about it.
Tarot Spread
Tarot spread is more like a conversation than a reading - in hands of an experienced person. There is no need for specific Celtic Cross spread but the rule number one is always the three Tarot card spread - the past, the present, the future, starting with the present. You add more cards if you want a deeper understanding.
It is useful to repeat the Tarot spread with the same question in mind. See if the same cards appear or those with similar meaning. If yes, you have mastered the Tarot to a decent level.
Tarot Decks
It is useful to start with more familiar Tarot decks. The most known and appreciated is the Rider-Waite Tarot of which I use the pictures. It is also good to have at least a couple of Tarot decks for different purposes.
The Tarot deck consist of 78 cards. The difference between a standard card decks and the Tarot are the Major Arcana, believed to be developed during the late Medieval, early Renaissance period.
