Astrology and Art

Below, we have a depiction of 7 figures. They nicely apply to the concept of seven celestial bodies, that are also represented in our psyche as the astrological archetypes:

Madonna with Child, St Anne, Saints
Jacobo Pontorno, 1515

Imagine you are the baby - at the center of your world. This is your pure and innocent Soul and it shines like the rising Sun

The figure holding you is Venus - significance of Love that we all need.

The female figure behind is Moon - our Mother-Grandmother essence, our mood, it stand behind. always lurking, and it is believed that we generated our mood from the maternal line, especially our mothers and grandmothers.

On the left is a young men with an arrow in his throat - this is Mercury, symbolising communication, speech, intellect. Throat chakra that this planet is responsible for, is often blocked., as our society holds back our expression and moulds it into uniformity.

The young men on the right is Mars. This is a warrior in us, our will, action and behaviour. He could hold a sword, here it is a cross, but whatever tool he needs to get things done.

Below, on the left is the representation of an adult in us - Jupiter, like a philosopher and a role-model.

And the hermit-like Sage in us - is Saturn, wisely pointing back to the Moon, as our mood, our emotions are the mysterious force that we need to master in order for the Sun-child to grow and truly shine.

Rosso Forentino, 1518

Another example above, showing a bit different character, more introspective.

Baby-Sun, lovingly embraced by Venus.

The Moon - a bit withdrawn, looking curiously, yet blessing the two Cherubins sitting on the floor.

Mercury are the two Cherubins reading/enjoying a book - this is another aspect of this planet - learning, getting the information.

Mars is more prominent here, on the left, the men in noble clothes, yet still a warrior, pointing to the Cherubins, showing the importance of studying thyself,.

Jupiter is also withdrawn, meaning that the affairs of the world are not the most important.

And Saturn, the Death-like figure on the right, not being ashamed by his naked, scrawny body, knowing that he accepts the truth, and will not shy away from it.
